Road Lessons/Day 6

WYOMING

TODAY IT'S ONLY THE LESSONS:

Lesson #15: It is freakin' windy in Wyoming!!! (we thought coming across So Dakota was hot and windy but that was nothing)

Lesson #16:  Sometimes you can see trouble coming (this part of Wyoming is really empty, we both saw a 2 tanker oil rig coming around a corner from a long way off and could see it was moving too fast...as it came round the curve it swerved into our lane, thankfully David anticipated and slowed down and moved way over to give it room!)

Lesson #17:  All those little black tar patches in the road are very slippery in this heat and create problems when you are trying to keep the bike upright in the Wyoming wind and they may cause the bike to skid (Again, David could feel that slipperiness and got us off that road and on to a clear freeway)

Lesson #18:  AVOID DUST DEVILS! (We saw one of these whirlwinds on the opposite side of the road some distance ahead, and, as we approached, it suddenly veered over to our side of the road and we went straight through it.......thanks to some amazing driving, David kept us upright, though it was a really  exciting few moments.  It really tossed us around, and brute force and experience kept us upright and out of the way of on coming traffic.  If I didn't already know David was a very good rider, I had proof today...he saw the problem   coming, slowed down, and reacted without panic).

Lesson #19: Knowing when it is time to get off the bike (After being slammed by the wind, buffeted by mini twisters, avoiding slippery road hazards and out of control big rigs, we got off the road at Casper and decided to stay put.  Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp were performing at a small outdoor field tonight, making it hard to find an available hotel room. As fun as that might have been, we decided there's no way we are going out to sit in that wind to try and hear them play.  Turns out it is always this windy here...it's the odd day when it is not windy. I feel like I have been on a boat all day, still rocking. We found a nice hotel WAY out on the edge of town near, appropriately, a wind farm,  found a great place to have dinner and a DRINK, went back to the hotel, watched Project Runway on TV and now it's 10 pm, David's been asleep for an hour and now I am going to sleep too. I hope tomorrow is less hairy. We're told it's this windy till Riverton, though, which is over 100 miles away, UGH!).

Thanks David for getting us safely here, that was amazing driving today!!!
