Road Lessons/Day 5

Today we went to Sturgis....
It occurs to me, that this is just a place to buy stuff that says you were in Sturgis.  It also seemed a bit like walking a carnival, or the state fair midway, except you bring your own rides. I am sure that there is some wild stuff happening at night, or in the campgrounds, but on the street it was pretty tame.  One or two topless girls, with pasties, and one with body painting. Girls in bikinis washing bikes or selling beer. Lots of rude quotes on T shirts, hot pants, and patches. We stayed a couple hours, drank some cold water, bought the obligatory T shirts, (it was hard to find one without sequins) and left.  It was nearly 100 degrees!  Way too hot!  Been there, done that.  We found we were way too indifferent to care to 'experience' the wild side of Sturgis. My favorite booth was the one for FUDs: female urination devices...the Go Girl was selling well, I think!  But we did see some interesting bikes:
David has been talking about making a "Bob" for a while now,
here's a good example of one:  a Harley that's been bobbed
I like this dragon bike with the red velvet seats
This is more my speed
Elvis in Sturgis? Where else!

Sturgis was too hot and crowded, so was Deadwood (which has REALLY changed since I was last there), so we went up the hill to a comparatively quiet Lead (is it led or leed?) A lunch of nachos and onion rings...UGH! We are so over fed with heavy foods...we are skipping dinner tonight and just staying in the room.  I am catching up on my entries here and that's it...we hope to be up early tomorrow am and perhaps climb Harney Peak and then hit the road.  Enough of the roaring Harley's already!

Quote of the day:  from David as we descended from Sylvan Lake down a VERY twisty road with tricky switch backs "This is cool!" Happy Dave!

Lesson #11:  Sometimes you find yourself in the place you'd only dreamed of.
Lesson #12:  It is hard to think about the future, when now is really great.
Lesson #13:  In certain instances, it is OK to just be a tourist.
Lesson #14:  With thousands of leaking bikes on the road: watch out for oil slicks!
